I added a "Nothin' But Fun" set of links. You should REALLY check all of those out. :-)
A few days ago Rudy wrote: "I'm 36 years old. When Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech in Washington D.C. he was 34. I don't know if I will be able to sleep tonight."
I'm turning 34 on Thursday and I'm dealing fine with my not being on par with MLK because I keep Schaeffer's quote in mind: "We must remember throughout our lives that in God's sight there are no little people and no little places. Only one thing is important: to be consecrated persons in God's place for us, at each moment."
I'm starting to work on a new lesson for Interlinc. It's Your Love Never Changes by new Gotee artist Paul Wright. If his album is like the song I have, it should be a great album.
I also got an e-mail today that I'll be writing an article for the Nov/Dec issue of Youthworker, the theme is Apologetics. My working title is Soulatta: Moving our Apologetics from the Debate House to the Coffee House
The Youthworker assignment was the proverbial straw (along with youth ministry fall chaos, SYATP Rally, our Spiritual Retreat, my daughter's 8th birthday, speaking in Lancaster, the manuscript being due in less than 60 days and more) that helped me decide to take a break from the blog until the end of September. I'm leaning, even then, to take a break until the book is 100% done. We will see.
Drop me an e-mail if you want to keep in touch at SnaveNel@aol.com. Until then, as I've taught my 4 year old daughter to say, "See you later bye, tell your momma hi!"

Youth Specialties Taken to task for Contemplative Prayer
I understand how contemplative prayer can be closely aligned with Eastern meditation which emphasizes emptying your mind versus the Romans 12 principle of filling our minds with God's thoughts but is this really the one thing that should be emphasized that YS does?
If only every Christian organization could be as pure as this one. These guys should go drink a glass of wine and relax. . . . oh, I bet they wouldn't do that. ;-)
Interesting read, though. Everyone has their critics, I just wish mine would talk with me face to face. :-O

It took a few minutes for leaders of the Bisexual, Gay & Lesbian Alliance at Rutgers University to realize something was wrong at their back-to-school meeting.
The hall was full of unfamiliar students wanting to become members. Most were carrying Bibles with markers in the first chapter of St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans. They also had copies of the campus policy forbidding discrimination on the basis of "race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, marital or veteran status."
Truth is, this scene hasn't happened at Rutgers or anywhere else -- so far.
What if it did? . . . .

Been working a lot on the book today, specifically creating a hand out for the chapter about worship that would explain how to make a prayer box and what it is and isn't. I'm starting to gather different kinds of boxes to be transformed into prayer boxes for each of our students who attends our senior high "Spiritual Retreat" this fall.
Also working on the chapter about passing on our faith from 2 Timothy 2:1-7. Deadline is Nov. 1. Plenty of time. :-)

I typically don't write any sort of prose, I'm more of a factual writer. However, I wrote this while I was watching my girls play on the lake front in New Hampshire this past week:
I will never have today again
Whether I have one more tomorrow or ten thousand tomorrows
Today is it's own special day
May today be savored as one of the finer things in life
May tomorrow not be on my mind
For today is a gift, a gift I will treasure
For I will never have today again
I need to make that a daily prayer.
